The Lapierre E-Zesty AM is a no-holds-barred E-Enduro bike for ambitious racers looking for a lively ride. The French brand presented its new E-Zesty during Eurobike 2018. The carbon E-Bike is fitted with a Fazua motor and represents a change in direction for E-Bikes. You can find all the details here.
Lapierre E-Zesty AM – E-Enduro of the future
“The E-Zesty has combined the best of both worlds” we note with amazement.
How often have manufacturers talked about what the perfect E-Bike would look like? Well Lapierre might have created something that comes close with this model that places itself almost as a hybrid between eMTBs and conventional bikes. The Fazua motor provides assistance on the way up, but you’ll be able to enjoy the low weight and seamless decoupling of the motor on the way down. If you’re a fast or aggressive rider, you’ll be astounded by the performance this bike can offer.
Here’s what downhill legend Nico Vouilloz had to say about it.
“We want to give the eMTB hold-outs a chance to have that extra bit of assistance on the way up yet still maintain the lively feel of an unmotorised All-Mountain bike. The new Zesty is an absolutely excellent all-mountain bike and fits perfectly at the top of the range of our unmotorised Zesty family.
For me, the E-Zesty AM LTD is the perfect bike for eMTB racing. Despite long days on the bike, the Fazua motor lets me save energy on the uphill transitions which I can then use for the timed descents. I definitely like to have that extra bit of power and concentration available for the timed sections and as a result also have a lot more fun.
One more advantage with this eMTB: The Fazua motor is simply not noticeable whilst riding above the 25km/h limit — as often happens on the timed sectors. It rides just like a normal all-mountain bike. If anything, the increased weight offers more comfort and traction and gives a very supple feeling suspension. I can’t really imagine a better E-Race bike.”
Developing the E-Zesty was all about getting the best performance out of this machine. The engineers at Lapierre didn’t just want to build another E-Mountainbike, but aimed to create something completely new. And that they have managed. The E-Zesty offers 150mm travel with premium Fox suspension, along with a carbon dropper post to save some additional weight. No compromises on the drivetrain either with SRAM X0 Eagle shifting.
The lightweight Fazua motor, which weighs just under 3kg together with the 250Wh battery and can even be removed completely if required, should ensure that this eMTB is lightfooted on the trails. We’d estimate the weight at around 15 or 16 kg, but didn’t have our scales along to check.
The top of the range model will cost € 7599. Lapierre did say that they will be offering a more affordable version at € 5999 as well.
The Lapierre E-Zesty is a bit of an eye opener. It’s almost as though Lapierre has read our minds and is exploring a new way of doing things: a light E-Enduro bike with a motor that provides support on the up but isn’t intrusive at all and meshes seamlessly with your ride.
The combination of high-end carbon frame and lightweight motor system makes the Lapierre E-Zesty AM our hot tip for E-Bike racing in 2019. We’re looking forward to getting this one in for testing.
