Rotwild 2018: The German premium bike brand Rotwild has presented its updated range for 2018. Most significant are the introduction of the new Brose Drive S Motor as well as the new removable, integrated battery. In addition, there are fresh new designs and graphics as well as several smaller technical updates. Read on for our summary of the highlights of the new eMTB range.

The naming conventions for the new Rotwild models have changed for this year, making them easier and more intuitive to understand. Names will now consist of the bike’s intended use (R = Race, X = All-Mountain, E = Enduro, etc.), whether it’s powered or not (+ = a motor-assisted bike) and the component spec (Ultra, Pro or Core). As we announced at the beginning of May, all models with the “Ultra” and “Pro” spec (apart from the E-Downhillbike R.G+) will feature the new removable 660 Wh battery integrated into Rotwild’s carbon downtube. The “Core” versions will have to content themselves with the existing integrated but non-removeable 518 Wh battery.

The batteries in Ultra and Pro models are now removable, with a capacity of 660 Wh

However, all new models are fitted with the new Brose Drive S Motor which provides 15 % more power with more consistent output over varying terrain – in our initial tests we were enthusiastic about the updates. Marquart now provide the display and control unit for the whole range. Connectivity is provided via Bluetooth and USB and the unit can sync with a Smartphone app. The in-house MHS I AR Headset is limited to a steering angle of 65 degrees on each side to protect the frame from the fork crown.

Cross-Country

Rotwild R.C+ (HT)

The Rotwild R.C+ HT is, as the name suggests, a lightweight cross-country hardtail. The Pro version, as with the other models in the range, is fitted with the new removable 660 Wh battery. All models have the improved Brose Drive S Motor fitted. The R.C+ HT will be available in both 27.5″+ and 29″ wheel-sizes – both based on E-Bike specific DT Swiss Hybrid wheels

  • Hardtail frame, sizes: S, M, L, X
  • Max tyre clearance: 29″ x 2.4″ or 27.5″ x 3.0″
  • Boost 148 thru-axle

Rotwild R.C+ (FS)

With its 120 mm travel, the full-suspension version of the Rotwild R.C+ should be ideal for cross-country routes and longer distances. Rotwild claims its XCS suspension kinematics reduces pedalling effects without reducing sensitivity, allowing it to maintain good traction. Unlike the hardtail version, the R.C+ FS is only available with 27.5″ wheels and doesn’t have space for a bottle cage – though it is still possible to mount a front derailleur.

  • Full-suspension frame, sizes: S, M, L, XL
  • 120 mm travel
  • 27,5″ wheels
  • E-Bike specific components
  • 2x drivetrain can be fitted
  • 3 builds available:
    • Ultra: SRAM EX1, Magura MTR-21
    • Pro: Shimano XT, Crankbrothers Highline dropper post
    • Core: Shimano XT

Prices: Ultra: 7.499 € (RRP) | Pro: 5.999 € (RRP) | Core: 4.999 € (RRP)

All Mountain: Rotwild R.X+

The full-suspension Rotwild R.X+ all-mountain bike comes with 140 mm travel and is well suited to both technical singletrack and exploring further afield. This versatile character is emphasised by the fact that Rotwild says it is possible to mount a choice of 27.5″, 27.5″+ or 29″ wheels as required. The chainstay length can be changed accordingly between 445 mm and 457.5 mm and larger pivot bearings should ensure better durability.

  • Full-suspension frame, sizes: S, M, L, XL
  • 140 mm travel
  • 29″, 27.5″ or 27.5″+ (3.0″ wide tyres max.) wheels
  • E-Bike optimised spec
  • Adjustable 12 x 148 mm dropouts
  • 5 builds available:
    • Ultra: 27,5″, 27,5″+, 29″, SRAM EX1, E.13 TRS+ Carbon
    • Pro: Shimano XT, Crankbrothers Highline dropper post
    • Core: Shimano XT/SLX

Prices: Ultra: 7.799 € (RRP)| Pro: 6.399 € (RRP) | Core: 5.399 € (RRP)

Enduro/Gravity

Rotwild R.E+

The unrelenting Rotwild R.E+ E-Enduro bike has received numerous small changes for 2018. It has the same 160 mm travel, though the chainstays have been lengthened by 7.5 mm to give extra stability. We’re interested to see how this affects the handling of the bike as we already lauded the previous version for its stability at speed. In the high-spec models it’s available with the new, bigger, removable battery and as with the other models uses the new Brose Drive S Motor.

  • Full-suspension frame, sizes: M, L, XL
  • 160 mm travel
  • 27.5″ (2.6″ wide tyres max.) wheels
  • Boost 148 dropouts
  • 3 builds available:
    • Ultra: SRAM EX1, Magura MTR-21, E.13 TRS+ Carbon
    • Pro: Shimano XT, E.13 TRS+
    • Core: Shimano XT/SLX, E.13 TRS

Prices: Ultra: 7.799 € (RRP)| Pro: 6.399 € (RRP) | Core: 5.699 € (RRP)

Rotwild R.G+

The Rotwild E-Downhillbike with its 200 mm of travel rolls into the next season with relatively few updates. The availability of E-Downhillbikes on the market is relatively limited, so we don’t want to withhold this beauty from you. The old integrated 500 Wh battery now powers the new Brose Drive S Motor. The in-house MHS I Headset allows adjustment of the head angle by ± 1.5° and the chainstays can be adjusted between 450 mm and 462.5 mm.

  • Full-suspension frame, sizes: M, L
  • 200 mm travel
  • 27.5″ (2.6″ wide tyres max.) wheels
  • Adjustable 12 x 148 mm dropouts
  • 2 builds available:
    • Ultra 40: Shimano Saint, Fox 40 Factory
    • Ultra 36: Shimano XT, Fox 36 Factory

Prices: Ultra 40: 8.999 € (RRP)| Ultra 36: 7.999 € (RRP)
