We took a look at the Haibike Flyon. Haibike has put particular emphasis on a fully integrated system with the Haibike FLYON and that’s exactly what they’ve managed to achieve. The new build features a TQ motor and convinced us with well thought-out details and a concept that feels fully developed and realised. We’ve got all the information here.
Haibike FLYON – In brief
The TQ motor produces 120 Nm torque!
There’s been rumblings for months, and now it’s confirmed: Haibike is learning to fly. Well, not literally, but the new FLYON range has so much power that we’ve been told you can just glide over the trails. The new range incorporates many technical innovations and every part and detail seems to have been thought out in the minutest detail.
The carbon frame is a completely new creation which features many lovely details along with a battery that’s fully integrated into the downtube. What we particularly like here is that the downtube doesn’t open completely along its side. Instead an opening on the bottom allows you to slide the battery out in the direction of the motor. That improves the stiffness of the downtube and also creates a rather clean look.
The 630Wh battery was developed with BMZ, is connected magnetically and can be secured with an additional lock. In addition, the Modular Rail System makes it possible to mount a bottle or lock directly to the downtube.
“Our vision with the FLYON was to create our own self-contained Haibike E-Bike system for the very first time, with a design that both incorporates and strengthens our philosophy. Haibike sees itself as courageous, leading, innovative and dynamic. FLYON represents that exactly and successfully bridges the gap to complete integration and increasing digitalisation” Benjamin Tuck, Haibike designer
The suspension design has been updated too. Haibike has designed a beautiful suspension linkage that underscores the dynamic nature of this E-Bike. The kinematics feature a flip chip to adjust the geometry. The headset includes a limiter to avoid bars spinning and damaging the top tube.
The TQ-Systems Motor
Haibike is using a TQ-Systems motor for the first time. The compact motor has existed for a number of years but isn’t featured on a lot of builds yet. That should change now — with the system featured on the Haibike FLYON this motor will now be available to a much broader audience.
There’s one thing we have to mention: 120NM torque is available to you. That’s a huge number! We’ve had some experience with this motor, and in the past, we found you’re at the 25km/h assistance limit almost immediately. We hope the software engineers have tuned these characteristics so that you don’t hit the limit straight away.
The large chainring covers the motor completely and simply reinforces the look of a ready-to-ride, sporty E-Mountainbike.
Display & Remote
Haibike thinks you need a display on your E-Bike. There’s been a lot of focus developing this one which has resulted in a clear and easy to read colour display that’s mounted on the stem and provides all the information you could need.
The remote has been redesigned too and is a well implemented ergonomic design. At the top a dial can be rotated to select menus on the display. Assistance modes are selected with a rocker switch with your thumb. The switch is placed perfectly so that you don’t have to relinquish your grip on the bars in difficult terrain.
The different power modes of the FLYON are colour coded, for easier identification of which assistance level you are at.
The power modes on the FLYON:
In XTREME mode you have 120Nm of toqrue on offer, and you’ll also run out of juice very quickly. Does that matter? We don’t really think so because Haibaike offers an optional 10A charger (the standard one is 4A) that allows the 630Wh battery to be charged to 80% in an hour. That’s exactly the right amount of time for a break.
Skybeamer 5000 & Twin Taillights
Daytime lights do help improve safety on the road as we’ve seen in the automobile sector. The Skybeamer 5000 and Twin Tailights bring this technology to the world of E-Bikes. Haibike has developed a unique 5000 lumen headlight and two red rear LED lights exclusively for the FLYON range. Both are integrated into the build very neatly.
The Skybeamer 5000 has a daytime light, with a dimmable and high-beam mode and is StVZO (licensed for road use in Germany) approved. The two rear lights are integrated into the seatstays. The only thing that’s missing is indicators, but that’s just nitpicking.
Haibike FLYON Nduro
The Haibike FLYON Nduro is the third generation of the much-loved E-Freerider. This E-Bike has a plush 180mm travel front and rear. What’s new is the mismatched wheel sizes front and rear. At the front there’s a narrower 29” wheel and at the back a 27.5” plus tyre provides traction and grip. This model will start at € 6299.

Haibike FLYON AllMtn
The all-mountain family now features three FLYON models. 150mm travel is likely the sweet-spot for a lot of riders and is likely to be very popular. The FLYON Allmtn range will range between €5999 and €8999.

Haibike FLYON Alltrail
There will be a hardtail too which Haibike is calling the Alltrail. The E-Bike will feature 27.5” plus tyres for a plush riding experience. There will be two models available starting at €4999.

Haibike FLYON Adventr
In addition to the Alltrail line, Haibike is introducing the Adventr range. The sporty Trekking-E-Bikes with integrated lights, mudguards and luggage rack should be perfect for casual riders. There will be two models in the range priced at €4999 and €5999.

This is quite something. Complete system integration that’s complete and successful. The Haibike Flyon has been considered and conceived down to the last detail. The new family with the powerful TQ-Systems motor has impressed us with great design and well though-out details that set a new benchmark in the industry. The integrated lights improve safety and are perfectly integrated into the eMTBs. We like how every part of this bike seems to have been thought about. This isn’t an E-Bike that has been fitted around existing systems and components. Instead it’s been designed from the ground up with components created specifically for it as required. That’s a courageous move — hats off to you Haibike.
Haibike has once again shown why it is one of the most popular E-Bike brands and has set a new benchmark for its competitors.
We also feel it’s worth mentioning that with the new speed sensor, Haibike is taking a clear stand against motor tuning and modifying the motor to go above the legal limit.
